Sex No Longer For Sale In Norway

Starting today it is illegal to buy sex in Norway. Norwegians paying for sex at home or abroad will be fined or even sentenced into prison. The Norwegian government says they think buying sex is unacceptable because it favors human trafficking and forced prostitution. I say good-on-ya Norway for leading the way!

The public opinion on prostitution seems to have become more and more open. I remember talking with a co-worker a few years ago, who had just returned from a trip to Thailand, and who said of the Thai prostitutes,”they just love sex, it’s just part of life and that’s why they do it”. What a naive and blind comment!

I think many have been far removed from the gritty reality of this issue. Why should anyone, anywhere have the “right” to buy sex? There is no such prostitute (in his/her right mind) who would sell their body just for fun. You either have such dire circumstances that prostitution is seemingly theĀ  only option or you’ve been forced into it.

The number of girls who are trafficked and forced into prostitution even, or should I say, especially in Europe is staggering. Just because it happens in Europe should NOT make you think that the Moldovan and Nigerian girls just somehow volunteered for the job. Whatever we can do to make it more and more difficult for traffickers and pimps to do their business the better. And by the way, the easier it is to get a grown prostitute, the easier it is to get a child as a side business.
