“We’re Out Stealing Souls From the Devil”

ct-lghomeHow has the Cuban church gone from asking “how do we survive?” to “how do we multiply?”.

A hundred years ago about 70% of all Christians lived in the West. Today the number is 20%. In an amazing report by Christianity Today Cubans are turning to Christ and the church growth is exponential. Young people boldly share the Gospel with their peers on the streets. One guy says, that if he wasn’t afraid on the streets when he was doing drugs, why should he be afraid now? They proclaim that they are “stealing souls from the Devil”.

Many people are not only becoming Christians, but they are excited to spread the word. They want Cubans to go out to the world as missionaries. As it is difficult for Cubans to leave, they reach many international students  in the country. A guy from Benin came to study and became a Christian in Cuba. He has now started seven churches in his home country.

It is fantastically exciting to see and hear what God is doing around the world. Even though the Church is withering away in Europe and getting a bit shaky in America, in Latin America, Africa and Asia amazing numbers of people are finding Christ!

The Church in the developing world has much to offer us. I had a conversation just yesterday with an African brother, who is devastated by how hopeless people are here in Finland. “I’ve been here for a year and I haven’t seen a gun. It’s so quiet and peaceful here, yet people don’t know God! How can that be?” He is bursting to share the Gospel and believes that is the main reason why God brought him to study in Finland.
