Alternative Christmas Message

Channel 4 in the UK  has caused an upheaval with its Alternative Christmas Message. Each year they choose “an alternative person” to give a Christmas greeting. This year’s choice is Iran’s president Ahmedinejad. Members of the parlament and of different organizations are publicly appalled by the channel’s choice.

I think their choice is telling of our Western culture’s  departure from its Christian heritage.  People are so far-removed from Christianity that they honestly don’t know what’s appropriate and what isn’t. Ahmedinejad is pretty much the furthest person from Christmas that you could choose to speak about it.

As people are becoming more and more weary of preparing a perfect Christmas and going on spending-sprees, it is becoming so crucial to speak about the heart of Christmas.  It is about God himself coming to earth in the vulnerable form of a baby. The same baby grew up to carry the sins of the world til death; to be the Savior of the world.

God chooses the small, insignificant places and people to do the greatest deeds history has ever witnessed. That’s Christmas.
