The Courage to Face Death

Pakistan’s minorities minister was murdered yesterday for the controversial blasphemy law. He was the only Christian minister in the Pakistani government, representing the 1.5% Christian minority of Pakistan.

The courage and unwavering commitment of Mr.Shahbaz Bhatti is an inspiration. Despite the death threats he received, he was determined to keep going until he paid the ultimate cost. Since a young age he knew he was “called” to defend the rights of the downtrodden. He was willing to die for the cause and that is why he never married.

Conviction like that changes the world. Perhaps his death will do more for religious freedom, than he could have done alive?

Christians in Muslim-majority nations are facing increasingly hostile circumstances. If you are a Christian from a Muslim background, Islam gives your family the right to do away with you. If you are from a Christian minority as was Mr. Bhatti, you’re threatened just because you’re on the wrong side. The killers of Mr. Bhatti said their motive was, “Mr Bhatti blasphemed”. Which is exactly why Pakistan’s blasphemy laws are so dangerous – there is too much room for interpretation when the cost is counted in human lives.

A Pakistani Girl Writes Poems for Change

Embedded video from CNN Video

A Pakistani girl writes poems to fight the Taleban. She seems to be quite a brave 11-year old. When you live in circumstances where freedom cannot be taken for granted, people like this rise up. The above news story is fluffy human interest (especially the “Yes, we can”-quotes) , but you get the point. Let her inspire you.
